If I have to reload WIN 7 and start over I am not going to be a happy camper!! I have downloaded the file from HP website a half dozen times now and would expect to have gotten at least ONE good load if that were the problem. I ran the hardware diagnostic HPHDU.exe at that time and it passed without error. The one time, several days ago, I had it installed (I think) the scanner would work with Windows fax&scan and would scan OK from Irfanview, just not the HP software. Using the "uninstall" selection on the installer menu does not REALLY uninstall the program - will always report "already installed" next time around. After about 15 attempts I get either the dreaded 1706 error (can't find SCAN.MSI) or the installer thinks my system is running XP instead of Win 7 / 64 (untrue). As yet I have had no luck even getting the SW reloaded to allow the diagnostics to find the scanner.
